Breville Oracle vs Jura Z6: Differences

The Breville Oracle beats the Jura Z6 by a score of 4-1 thanks to its superior coffee flavor, more advanced steam wand, and user-friendly features like one-touch Americano and PID technology.

1. Coffee Flavor

The Winner: Breville Oracle

Grinder

Conical burr grinders, which are included in both of these models, are what I consider to be the most effective kind of grinders now on the market. Using these grinders, you can get both even and fresh grounds.

The Breville grinder offers 45 settings, which is more than I need, but if you are detail-oriented, I think having such a wide range of settings will be really helpful. And about the Jura Z6, its AromaG3 grinder comes with 6 different settings. It is still good for drinkers who search for simplicity.

In my experience with the grinders that come with these machines, the Breville Oracle is much more consistent. It grinds the beans evenly and quietly, which is what we could expect from a machine in this price range.

With the Jura Z6, I would recommend that you set its grinder to a high level so that you can obtain finer coffee grounds at the end, which will result in coffee or espresso that is both more flavorful and more strong. This relates to the dose that should be taken.

Because the machine can only hold a maximum of 16 grams, the flavor may not always be as robust as you wish. Therefore, extraction from finer grounds ensures that the flavor packs more punch.

Dosing + tamping

These 3000$ models will do all your steps, including dosing and tamping. The Jura Z6 is a better choice if you want a machine that requires minimum effort. You won’t have to touch any buttons while doing its job because it grinds the beans, doses, and then tamps. The dose ranges anywhere from 5 to 16 grams. As a result, the flavor of the coffee is more mellow and balanced.

And the Breville Oracle is still a marginally superior option in dosing respect. Your chosen recipe will determine the dose, ranging from 19 to 22 grams. In my experience, it has a robust, nutty, and slightly bitter taste.

Personally, I prefer the dosing, tamping, and brewing process of the Breville Oracle. There are two parts: the first is the dosing and tamping, and the second is the brewing. As a first step, we put the portafilter in the dosing and tamping area to collect the ground coffee. After that, we take the portafilter out and pluck it in the brewing section. In contrast to the Jura model, this requires far more manual work. As a former barista, I enjoy these small steps.

Heating system

Breville Oracle boasted about how well its dual-boiler heating system works, while the Jura Z6 shows how quick it is with its Thermoblock.

I would suggest going with the Oracle model if you are looking for a machine that does an outstanding job of maintaining both the temperature of the brewing process and the steam pressure. Precise temperature control is achieved by using dual boilers and PID technology. After many times of brewing and foaming, the average temperature of the espresso I get is 188F. Every single time, the flavor and strength of the coffee are unparalleled.

If you want a machine that can make a cup of latte in one minute after you turn it on, the Jura Z6 is the best choice. Only about a minute is needed for the machine to heat up, and after that, it is ready to froth milk and brew coffee. However, remember that those who need piping hot and scalding coffee should not consider purchasing this model. With this, the hottest coffee I can get is 175F, which tends to cool off more quickly.

Brewing technique

The Breville Oracle comes equipped with a pre-infusion feature, which ensures that the water penetrates the coffee grounds gently before brewing to extract full texture and complex layers of flavor. As I’ve already said, this model makes balanced and strong coffee.

Even though Jura Z6 doesn’t have a special way to brew coffee, I don’t have many complaints about its coffee. To this point, both the latte macchiato and the overall espresso have been satisfying to me. However, it is a fact that this machine makes coffee with a taste that is both well-balanced and occasionally watery, depending on the number of grounds used. This one is not as good as the one above for coffee drinkers who like nuanced flavors.

2. Utilities

The Winner: It’s a Tie!

I think one more thing about each model is important to highlight. The Breville model can make an Americano with a single press button. I would say that the flavor is invigorating, lingering, and slightly bitter. When I randomly pull out a cup, it never seems watered down. If you are a fan of Americano, you will definitely love this machine.

The Jura Z6 line features a blue-lit, side-loaded water tank that simplifies checking the water level. Filling up the tank is also simple.

3. Milk System

The Winner: Breville Oracle

To begin, I want to clarify that microfoam can be frothed using any of the two machines; the method you choose and the recipe will determine which machine you use. The difference between the Jura Z6 and the Breville Oracle is that the Jura Z6 utilizes a separate carafe, while the Breville Oracle features a steam wand with its own boiler.

So, in terms of convenience, Jura Z6 is the winner. Filling the carafe and connecting it to Jura via a pipe are the only things that need to be done. Then you may use it to produce microfoam or steam milk. But the milk carafe is not included with the Z6. You have to buy it separately.

On the Jura Z6, you can change the milk foam’s temperature for optimal foaming. However, everything has a maximum temperature of no more than 170 degrees except the flat white, which is about 145 degrees.

Regarding texture, I like the Breville Oracle since its steam wand has more control over the carafe. There are two settings: manual and automatic. The steam wand can be left in the milk jug and will shut off after a certain amount of time, or we can froth the milk and turn it off manually. Users have the ability to program the temperature and texture of the milk froth using the user-friendly interface.

After I have used this model to froth milk many times, I found that the temperature of the milk easily reaches 150 ° F once. This temperature is very high and is great for making cappuccino and latte. And the texture is absolutely incredible! Utilizing this tool won’t require much effort to produce dry and airy foam.

4. Cleaning & Maintain

The Winner: Breville Oracle

When it comes to cleaning, both are perfectly acceptable. However, the Breville Oracle comes out on top thanks to the auto-purge function included on its steam wand. After each time of steaming and frothing, we have to point the wand down into the drip tray, and its own boiler will push water through the wand to clean it. Therefore, you won’t have any trouble remaining on the milk path with Breville Oracle.

When it comes to the Jura Z6, which has a separate carafe, you will need to clean the milk path after it has been cleaned. You should use a cleaning solution when utilizing this one.
