DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura E8: both automatic espresso machines are great. But if I could only choose one of them, it would be the first one.
The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is one of the best espresso machines under $2000 that your money can buy. This one offers various one-touch drinks with a wide range of settings, allowing you to experiment to find something that satisfies your caffeine cravings. Better yet, it can make cold espresso and can be controlled remotely, though it doesn’t significantly aid in the preparation of milk-based beverages.
The Jura E8 also has a long list of preset drinks and many adjustable settings. It impressed me with its ability to achieve the micro-foam level necessary for latte art while also doing an excellent job at preparing a delightful cappuccino. This unit can also be controlled remotely to prepare any drink, including milk-based ones, without the need for hands-on tasks.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Jura E8: Differences
The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus wins 3-2 against the Jura E8. Here is an in-depth comparison between these two workhorses, so keep reading for more details!
Coffee Flavour
Winner: Tie
Built-in Grinder
Most super-automatic espresso machines, no doubt, come with built-in grinders to free you from the hassle of buying a separate grinder and ensure a seamless bean-to-cup process. Both the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura E8 use a stainless steel conical burr grinder, but the latter gains an edge with its patented Aroma G3 technology.
My testing showed that the Aroma G3 grinder operated significantly faster and quieter while still delivering consistent and high-quality results in grinding. That means a richly flavored espresso made swiftly and quietly, making it an ideal choice for early morning brewing. Bravo, Jura!
However, while the Jura E8 only offers 6 grind settings, the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus takes the lead with up to 13 different settings. Considering the high-end price tag of the Jura E8, it should have more settings than that rather than just matching the industry standard. With a wide range of grind sizes, the Dinamica Plus will certainly never leave you feeling stuck between two options when dialing in your ideal espresso.
You can toggle between grind settings by twisting a dial on top of the machine. Ensure that you make the adjustment only while the grinder is running. Doing the opposite could jam the grinder, leading to costly repairs or even replacement. A tip that might be new to you – avoid using oily beans, also known as dark or over-roasted beans. The oils from these beans can accumulate inside the grinder and other internal components, leading to clogging and residue buildup.
Heating System
Both have a single boiler system with fast-heating thermoblock technology. So despite the fact that these machines can’t brew espresso and dispense milk at once, they can heat up and swiftly switch between processes in a flash. That way, you’re not left cooling your heels for your favorite beverage.
In fact, the thermoblock heating system can reach the ideal temperature for brewing espresso or steaming milk within 20-30 seconds – this is significantly faster than traditional boiler systems, which may take minutes to heat up. The reason is that this technology only heats the amount of water required for each process, so it not only reduces wait times but also ensures your espresso is always prepared with fresh water.
Thermoblock technology is really cool. But if you are looking for something for a workplace, a bar, or any other large setting where high volumes of coffee are needed consistently, a dual boiler machine would be your preferred choice. Such a machine is typically expensive, but there are some models that strike a balance between performance and affordability, such as the Saeco Xelsis or the DeLonghi Eletta.
The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus features a cup warming tray on top and you can you it to pre-heat your cup. That way, your espresso doesn’t lose heat while waiting for the milk foam to be dispensed.
Brewing System
Before the extraction process takes place, both of these machines moisten the coffee grounds with hot water for a brief period to make them bloom for better extraction and reduce channeling. This is called “pre-infusion” and is commonly found in automatic espresso machines. You may never see Jura mention this term since they developed a more complicated and confusing term: Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System, or I.P.B.A.S. for short.
Then the extraction process is carried out under the action of pressure instead of just gravity, setting these machines apart from their drip coffee counterparts. The Dinamica Plus pulls a shot at a pressure of up to 19 bars, while the Jura E8 extracts espresso at 15 bars – Both pressure levels are higher than the standard pressure of 9 bars for producing high-quality espressos.
Unlike machines from other brands, the Jura E8 features a patented brewing technology called the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.). This involves forcing heated water through the coffee grounds in short bursts, with the aim of enhancing the flavor extraction and quality of espresso shots.
Leaving aside the perplexing and somewhat silly term, I found P.E.P. technology to be very effective. The Jura E8 produced a full-bodied espresso layered with a thick, velvety crema and free from any bitter note. The Dinamica Plus could also yield a balanced shot with a thick crema layer, on par with a drink created by a skilled barista, but it was too hot to drink immediately.
Milk Frothing System
Both are automatic milk-frothing machines, meaning you can prepare milk-based coffee beverages at home with zero special barista skill required – Just push the button, and the magic will happen instantly.
The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus features a patented LatteCrema system, including a thermal milk pitcher with a big built-in spout for dispensing milk. To use this milk system, simply fill the carafe with your cool milk and attach it neatly to the front of the machine. The machine will instruct you to remove the hot water spigot and add the milk container. Then you have to choose the amount of milk froth for your drink by turning a knob on top of the pitcher (max, min, and no froth).
I really preferred this setup as it requires no additional space for the milk carafe or any tube to connect it to the machine (which requires extra rinsing and replacement every few months). It can also be stored in the refrigerator, ensuring the milk stays chilled and retains its freshness when not in use.
On the other hand, the Jura E8’s automatic milk frother uses something called Professional Fine Foam Technology. This needs to be paired with a milk pitcher via an included plastic tube, but Jura sells this part separately. Given the high price Jura is asking for the E8, this one should come with everything needed, right? You can buy a cheap glass jug or a cool control (which can keep your milk cold without the fridge) or just use yours.
Once you’ve set it up, its frother will suck milk from the pitcher, froth it, and pour milk foam into your cup, so there’s no need to move your cup during preparing a milk-based espresso drink. The latest version has removed the frother’s manual knob used for texture adjustment. Instead, just choose your desired drink, and the machine will automatically generate the right froth texture. You can even adjust the amount of milk according to the dispensing time (3-120 secs) – You will need to experiment a bit to pinpoint the optimal setting to satisfy your unique palate across a variety of drinks.
The result? I found the Dinamica Plus excels in making frothy, thick foam suitable for cappuccinos but falls short in achieving the micro-foam level required for latte art. Meanwhile, the Jura E8 could produce milk foam with the most aerated texture for a cappuccino and the smoothest microfoam for a perfect latte.
Design & Usability

Dimensions, Footprint, & Weight
DeLonghi Dinamica Plus | Jura E8 | |
---|---|---|
Dimensions | 9.3 x 14 x 17 inches | 11 × 13.6 × 17.5 inches |
Weight | 20.9 lbs | 21.6 lbs |
Both of these machines feature a sleek but simple design. They may not resemble high-tech alien equipment, but I believe we all agree they will look pretty good in any modern kitchen! Both machines sport predominantly plastic exteriors with just some steel or chrome accents, but they still feel sturdy and well-made instead of flimsy. It’s somewhat early to applaud their durability, but I think they will effortlessly stand the test of time.
In an epoch where smartphones reign supreme, these machines boast bright and intuitive touchscreens, bringing a high-tech edge to your kitchen. Some people might think the 2.8-inch screen is a tad too small, but I think it integrates beautifully with the overall proportions of the machine.
Oh, right, I’d also say that while they’re not the most compact machines I’ve tested, I don’t think they will cause any headaches when it comes to finding the right space for them on your kitchen counter. Just remember that they are quite tall, especially if you plan to house your next espresso machine beneath kitchen cabinets. Also, putting them in place might require a bit of muscle, given that they are on the heavy side.
Pre-programmed Coffee Options
DeLonghi Dinamica Plus | Jura E8 |
---|---|
Gourmet Espresso Double Espresso Long Coffee Truebrew Over Ice Coffee Pot Doppio+ Cappuccino Latte Macchiato Milk Cappuccino + Cappuccino Mix Caffelatte Flat White Espresso Macchiato Hot Water | Espresso Coffee Caffè Barista Americano Espresso doppio Cortado Macchiato Cappuccino Cappuccino Extra Shot Flat white Flat white Extra Shot Latte macchiato Latte macchiato Extra Shot Portion of milk foam Hot water 2 × Espresso 2 × Coffee |
These bad boys offer a wide range of specialties, including café classics like espresso, cappuccino, latte macchiato, and flat white – all at the touch of a button. The hot water feature is also a welcome addition since it gives you hot water in no time for brewing subtly flavored teas or whipping up a satisfying mug of hot chocolate.
I really enjoyed the “Truebrew Over Ice” option of the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus option. Don’t be mistaken, it’s not exactly a “cold brew” function. Instead, it just produces espresso at room temperature and you can add a few ice cubes to get a delightful, refreshing beverage perfect for sweltering summer days.
Like any fully automatic espresso machine, you can play around with some settings a bit to get the best shot for your taste. The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus offers 5 levels of aroma strength, 4 levels of espresso dose, 4 brew temperatures, and 3 levels of froth. On the other hand, the Jura E8 comes with 8 coffee strength levels and 2 brewing temperatures and permits the customization of both the shot length and milk volume (measured in seconds).
Discovering a recipe that aligns perfectly with your taste buds is a daunting task, so having someone alter it after you’ve spent considerable time finding it is an absolute nightmare. The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus offers up to 4 user profiles so that you and a few like-minded others can make personal customizations without interfering with each other’s preferences. As for the Jura E8, all your experiments will be pointless if someone accidentally changes the settings of your favorite drink.
Both machines have a bypass chute for using pre-ground coffee whenever you run out of whole beans. If your guest says no to caffeinated drinks, just serve them a quick decaf.
Spout & Cup Clearance
DeLonghi Dinamica Plus | Jura E8 | |
---|---|---|
Spout Type | Dual | Dual |
Cup Clearance | 3.5-5.5 inches | 2.6–4.4 inches |
They both have height-adjustable dispensing spouts, which can be raised high enough to accommodate a travel mug or lowered to safeguard the lovely crema layer atop your espressos and reduce unwanted splattering. The milk foam will also be extracted from a separate spigot, and you don’t need to shift your cup throughout the process. You can also use the double shot function to prepare a larger espresso serving or make two cups simultaneously to share with your companion.
Water Reservoir & Bean Hopper
DeLonghi Dinamica Plus | Jura E8 | |
---|---|---|
Water Reservoir | 1.8 liter | 1.9 liter |
Bean Hopper | 0.37 liter | 0.29 liter |
Their water tanks aren’t small at all, but if they are placed in your workplace, you and your co-workers will have to take turns refilling them frequently. Both machines can accommodate a water filter (DeLonghi and Clearyl smart + water filters) to purify the water.
Using the filter not only results in reduced descaling of the machine but also guarantees your espresso is consistently brewed with high-quality water. This is an option and may require monthly replacement, but I highly recommend it, particularly if you reside in a region with high water hardness levels.
When it comes to their bean hoppers, there is an airtight lid. This is the key to preventing the beans from losing their aroma in a short time and reducing the noise level of the grinder.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Winner: DeLonghi Dinamica Plus
Cleaning these bean-to-cup machines is a breeze since almost everything is automated, thereby reducing the need for manual intervention to a bare minimum.
The descaling process for these machines is entirely automatic. You won’t need to pencil in dates or set alerts on your phone, as the machines will prompt you when the time is right. All you need to do is use the appropriate descaling solution and follow the instructions that appear on the screen to activate the automatic cycle. If you decide to use the water filter, how often to descale the machine is so few that it can be counted on one finger.
As for cleaning the milk frothing system, both run an automatic cleaning cycle after each time you brew a milk-based beverage. Additionally, they also need a deep cleaning periodically, relying on an automated sequence field as well.
One thing that the Dinamica Plus has over its competitor is that it has a removable brew group, and you need to clean and lubricate it manually. Yes, that’s adding one more maintenance job to your list, but it’s a small price to pay for extending the life of the brew unit. And if it gets damaged, replacement is a straightforward process.
Utilities & Other Features
Winner: Jura E8
Remote Control
One more competitive aspect between the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura E8 is the capacity for remote command. Using your smartphone, you can select a drink and make the necessary tweaks in relation to aroma strength, espresso volume, brewing temperature, and milk dosage, among others. Interestingly, the Jura E8 can also connect to an Apple watch, allowing you to make an order by touching your wrist.
The ability to control the Dinamica Plus remotely doesn’t seem to contribute significantly to the convenience of preparing a milk-based drink. This still requires some manual tasks, including getting the milk holder out of your fridge, attaching it to the machine, and turning the knob to select the desired amount of milk foam.
Artificial Intelligence
The Jura E8 doesn’t offer individual user profiles. In return, it can remember your drinking habits through a self-learning algorithm and show them on the home screen, eliminating the need to navigate through menus to find your favorite settings each time.
Automatic Switch-Off
Have you ever left the house in a rush in the morning and left one or a few devices running? This not only wastes electricity but also risks fire due to short circuits. The good news is that both the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura E8 can automatically go off after an adjustable interval, providing peace of mind to absent-minded users.
