Delonghi EC155 vs Delonghi Stilosa EC260: Differences

In the competition between EC260 and EC155, the former emerged victorious with a score of 1-0 and one draw. This was attributed to its faster preheating time and better overall convenience. Check out the detailed analysis below for further insights.

Coffee flavor & brewing system

The winner: Delonghi EC260

Heating System

With Delonghi EC155 and EC260, they rely on a durable stainless steel boiler. However, there are notable distinctions that differentiate them.

When using the EC155, it requires some time to reach the optimal temperature. To prepare a mocha latte or iced mocha, I usually grind the coffee beans the night before, switch on the machine upon waking up, and allow it to warm up for approximately 10 minutes while I prepare myself.

My coffee will only be ready after that. For a straight espresso, I must wait an additional 15 minutes for it to reach the desired temperature, as it falls slightly short otherwise. On the contrary, the EC260 boasts a quicker preheating time of under 7 minutes. This enables me to savor my coffee much sooner without enduring long waits.

I also realized that both models lack temperature control, potentially resulting in inconsistent shots. However, considering their affordable price, this compromise is reasonable.

Milk system

With the EC155, I found the swivel jet frother to be a delightful addition. It lets me unleash my inner barista and get creative with decorative pours. When used correctly, the foam produced by this frother is simply delightful. It’s thick and creamy and boasts a smooth texture that adds a touch of elegance to every cup.

Conversely, the EC260 boasts a panarello-style steam wand, which provides a different milk experience. If you’re a fan of creamier milk rather than frothy goodness, this wand is your go-to choice.

Design and convenience

Tie!

Weight and dimension

The EC155, which has dimensions of 12.2 inches x 19.3 inches x 15 inches and weighs around 6.7 pounds, is an ideal choice for individuals with a shortage of counter space who need a compact and easily transportable device.

Inversely, the EC260 is a larger option, measuring 8 inches x 13.5 inches x 11.2 inches and weighing 9.48 pounds. Despite being somewhat heavier than the EC155, it maintains good maneuverability and doesn’t consume excessive counter space.

Cup clearance

One important aspect that distinguishes the two models is the cup clearance. The EC260 has the capacity to accommodate cups and mugs with a height of up to 110 mm, whereas the EC155 can only hold those with a height of up to 66 mm

If you have a penchant for larger cups of espresso or prefer to make lattes and cappuccinos with more milk, you may discover that the EC260 is a more suitable option than the EC155.

Build quality

There are some metal parts on both models, but most of them are made out of plastic. As a result, the overall appearance may not be as appealing.

Near the brew group of Delonghi EC155, there is a plastic tamper that I find to be unsatisfactory. Plastic is not the best material for a tamper, and its placement makes tamping difficult.

On the other hand, the EC260 doesn’t come with a built-in tamper, but it does include a separate one. However, it’s a bit disappointing that the included tamper feels flimsy. It doesn’t give me the confidence to tamp the coffee grounds.

Delonghi EC155 vs EC260: Similarities

Both the Delonghi EC155 vs EC260 share some similar features, offering great experiences for users. So, let’s scroll down to find out more!

15 Bar pump pressure

The presence of a 15-bar pump pressure is found in both the Delonghi EC155 and EC260 models. This characteristic indicates the machine’s capacity to create pressure, a crucial factor for brewing high-quality espresso. A greater pump pressure enhances the richness and strength of the espresso. Additionally, this attribute aids in the swift and efficient extraction of espresso, leading to a more delectable cup.

Removable water tank

Both the Delonghi EC155 and EC260 come equipped with a detachable water tank, a feature that enhances their usability and maintenance. The design eliminates the necessity to reposition the entire machine when refilling, enabling users to replenish it with fresh water effortlessly.

Beyond the simplicity of refilling, it significantly eases the cleaning process, allowing for the efficient removal of accumulated debris or limescale.
