It’s not easy to choose a mid-range espresso machine since it’s significantly more expensive, and users may have difficulty understanding whether a feature is worth the price tag. If you are stuck in the situation, check out my review for Gaggia Accademia vs Jura S8!
Not all mid-range machines offer the luxury, high-quality design that the Jura S8 has. By simply pressing a button, you can brew delicious espresso. Additionally, consumers may quickly take advantage of the 15 presets the machine can brew, and the entire process of creating a coffee cup is automated.
The Gaggia Accademia has a dual-boiler heating system, an eight-setting ceramic grinder, and a milk system with a manual steam wand for latte art enthusiasts. Additionally, it has an active cup warmer that you can use to pre-heat the cup and guarantee that your coffee will be hot.

Gaggia Accademia vs Jura S8: Differences
Jura S8 wins 2-1 and ties once against its opponent Gaggia Accademia. This machine has so many more one-touch options, and its Thermoblock’s temperature performance is no joke. Find out what I like and don’t like about both product lines!
Espresso extraction
Tie
Regarding espresso extraction, Jura S8 and Gaggia Accademia use the pump pressure to pull out all the flavor notes from users’ beans of choice. And so far, the pumps’ pulse extraction seems to be doing quite well. Of course, I have been testing the devices for a while now to give you this statement. And I can guarantee that they have been extracting me tasty cups.
The temperature performance is equally good as well. While Jura S8 comes with a single Thermoblock, the Gaggia Accademia boats a dual boiler system. Each has its strengths and weaknesses.
With Jura S8, the water heats up fairly quickly (under 1 minute), and I don’t notice any temperature fluctuations. As for Gaggia Accademia, it allows users to enjoy a constant brew and froth experience without the espresso’s temperature dropping lower or the milk being too cool. However, the boiler system isn’t quick on its feet and will require at least 3-5 minutes of preparation for decent extracting parameters.
Milk frother
Winner: Gaggia Accademia
Gaggia Accademia wins with its dual milk system. It features a steam wand and a milk carafe to give users freer control over the milk texture and the frothing experience. It’s understandable that users want to play around with some manual features from time to time, and it’s not always possible with super-automatic machines.
Regarding milk foam texture, I find the machine to be very diverse and potent. The steam wand can deliver creamy foam anytime, while the milk carafe focuses on drier and airier foam texture.
As for Jura S8, it doesn’t give the same manual experience. But its milk carafe is the same as the one on Gaggia Accademia, and it knows how to adjust the texture according to your recipe. Of course, a cup of flat white can’t have the same type of milk. The system allows adjustments as well. So if you want to change the milk length or texture, it’s possible.
One-touch beverages
Winner: Jura S8
How are the one-touch recipes doing? What can be produced by these devices with a single touch? Jura S8 and Gaggia Accademia feature these beverages on their one-touch system:
- Jura S8: ristretto, double ristretto, espresso, double espresso, coffee, double coffee, macchiato, caffe latte, cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato, milk portion, milk foam portion, hot water, hot water for green tea
- Gaggia Accademia: espresso, espresso lungo, caffe crema, cappuccino, latte macchiato, hot milk, milk froth, hot water
With the list alone, I think it’s worth spending money on the Jura S8. Being mid-range machines, it’s mandatory that they allow users to enjoy a high level of automation and convenience. And Jura S8 seems to understand its assignment well. That said, Gaggia Accademia’s presets are no joke, especially since the device belongs to the more affordable side of the middle range.
At this point, it depends a lot on your budget and how much you are willing to invest in an espresso machine. Gaggia Accademia is a wonderful alternative to Jura S8 if you want a technologically advanced and affordable model.
Utilities
Winner: Jura S8
Both machines boast an auto-purge feature that rinses the brew path and milk circuit after each brewing session and when we turn the machine on. This feature helps keep the system clean and free from old coffee and sour milk odor. If you want an aromatic and delicious cup of espresso every time you pull one, this feature will do you good.
Also, these models boast a very impressive set of alerts to update users about the real-time condition of these devices. The alerts include an empty water tank, full dreg drawer, descaling alert, incorrectly-placed drip tray, etc. Jura S8 is the winner because it also tells users when the bean hopper is empty or not full enough to make another beverage. Gaggia Accademia, on the other hand, doesn’t have this feature. So users have to figure things out for themselves.
Gaggia Accademia vs Jura S8: Similarities
What about the similarities? Check them out right here!
Programmability
More or less, the programmability is akin to these super-automatic machines and all other devices of the same range, for that matter. You can expect to control the coffee strength, grind setting, espresso volume, milk length, aroma, and some other brewing features. The memo technology will save the adjustments for future reference.
Adjustable spout height
Being modern espresso machines, there is no doubt that these models have adjustable spout height. Both espresso and cappuccino spouts on Jura S8 are alterable. The same goes for Gaggia Accademia’s main spout.
- Jura S8: cappuccino spout is 4.4 – 6.2 inches high, espresso spout is 2.8 – 4.6 inches
- Gaggia Accademia: max cup height is 6.5 inches
