Jura C65 vs E6: Which Is Better For Household Use?

The C65 and E6 are good coffee machines from Jura, a well-known brand for high-quality automatic coffee machines. So, for Jura C65 vs E6 comparison, which would be a better and more convenient machine?

For me, the Jura E6 is the better pick, as it offers more adjustable levels for the coffee strengths and a greater number of presets for espresso and coffee drinks. Though it does not have the bypass doser found in the Jura C65, it is equipped with an ungraded grinder for smoother and more silent operation. Thus, if you don’t mind the shortage of the bypass tube for ground coffee, the Jura E6 is worth buying.

On the other hand, the Jura C65 will be suitable for people who like simple and straightforward control over the machine operation and use ground coffee for decaf drinks frequently.

Jura C65 vs E6: Differences

To me, the Jura E6 wins 3-1 and 1 tie against the Jura C65, in terms of grinder performance, coffee flavor, coffee specialties, and utilities. However, C65 is cheaper and is a great choice if you want to use pre-ground coffee.

Coffee Flavor & Brewing System

The Winner: Jura E6

I have brewed espresso with the Jura C65 and E6 machines. I have to say, I’m all about the flavor of the cups made by the Jura E6. Those shots are hotter, stronger, and downright tasty, hitting my spot just right. On the other hand, the C65’s coffee shot doesn’t pack that bold and rich punch; I mean, it’s more on the mild side compared to the E6’s brew.

Grinder

The grinder in Jura E6 is definitely an amazing upgrade because it operates more efficiently and silently than that in the Jura C65. It is an Aroma G3 grinder that brings some amazing features to the table.

First off, its conical burr design is a game-changer. It ensures that every bean is ground to the same size, which means you get a consistent extraction of flavors that leads to a perfectly balanced and flavorful cup of joe.

Next, this burr is engineered to prevent overheating during grinding, so your coffee retains its original flavor and aroma.

And that’s not all! This grinder is as quiet as a whisper. Seriously, you won’t hear any loud grinding noises disturbing your peaceful morning. It’s more like a gentle hum, like having a calm conversation. So you can whip up your morning espresso without causing a ruckus and waking up the whole household.

About the Jura C65, it uses a stainless steel conical burr grinder. It works much noisier than the Jura E6.

Even the slightest tweak in the fineness of coffee grounds can totally transform the taste of your brew. So, having a good range of grinding settings on a coffee machine is a big deal. You know the drill: the finer the grind, the stronger the coffee punch. The E6 goes all out with 6 settings, while the Jura C65 offers 5 settings. This might not give you as much room to play, but considering their price, it’s still pretty reasonable.

Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.®)

The Jura E6 definitely takes the cake in this category. It has a built-in P.E.P. (Pulse Extraction Process). This super cool Jura technology optimizes the extraction time to perfection, ensuring that every espresso shot is amazing. Unfortunately, the C65 doesn’t come equipped with this awesome P.E.P. feature.

When you’re making a short espresso with the E6, it goes into turbo mode, pumping hot water through those coffee grounds in quick bursts. This special process is like a secret code that unlocks the full potential of the coffee’s flavors, giving you a deeper, richer, and more flavorful cup. And that’s not all – we can’t forget about the crema – with P.E.P, Jura E6 produces more of that creamy goodness.

Heating System

One thing that the Jura C65 and E6 have in common is their single Thermoblock heating system. This means that these machines can’t handle brewing and milk steaming at the same time, and there will be a short delay between these two processes. It can be a bit inconvenient if you’re whipping up a bunch of milk-based drinks.

But we have to consider that both of these machines are specifically designed for household use. And in fact, when I talk about the delay, it’s not like you have to wait for ages, like tens of minutes or half an hour. Thanks to Thermoblock technology, the delay is actually just a matter of seconds. So a single boiler is not a major drawback.

Milk System

Both the Jura C65 and E6 follow the same approach when it comes to frothing milk. Instead of using a traditional steam wand or milk frother, they both draw milk from a container through a pipe and internally froth it within the machine. This means that the frothing process is automated and you don’t have manual control over the milk texture.

For veteran users who prefer to fine-tune the froth according to their preferences, this setup might be a bit limiting. However, for beginners or those who prefer the convenience of automated frothing, this approach is actually quite practical. They won’t have to mess around with manual milk frothing but still get consistent.

The good news is that these machines still manage to produce high-quality froth, and that’s partly thanks to Jura’s impressive Fine Foam technology.

That’s not all. I am slightly disappointed with the Jura C65 and E6, not including a milk jug. However, the good news is we don’t actually need to purchase an additional Jura Milk Container. We can use any milk container of our choice.

Jura C65's milk system
Jura C65’s milk system

Also, there is a slight difference in the placement of the milk spout between the Jura C65 and E6 models. With the C65, you’ll find the milk spout a few inches away from the coffee spout. This setup does not qualify as a true “One-touch” system because you must physically move your cup from the milk spout to the coffee spout when preparing a milk-based drink.

If you decide to go for a milk-based drink, you can’t simply order it and then wander off, expecting it to be ready when you return magically. You have to stick around and keep an eye on the process.

Jura E6's milk system
Jura E6’s milk system

Unlike the C65, the E6 has nailed the placement by putting the milk spout right behind the coffee spout. This means that with the E6’s integrated milk system, you can prepare a delicious cappuccino without moving your cup around.

But don’t get too excited thinking it’s a one-step process. You still have to twist the rotary dial to get the milk frother going. If you’re all about that one-step magic, the Jura E8 might be the one for you. It takes simplicity to a whole new level.

Weight‎22 lb22 lbs

When it comes to weight and size, both the Jura C65 and E6 are pretty similar. They both weigh around 22 lb, so you won’t be dealing with any heavyweight contenders here. As for their dimensions, they strike a nice balance. They’re not too big and not too small, just the right fit for my kitchen counter. No need to worry about them taking up all the space.

When it comes to appearance, the Jura E6 truly steals the show with its fantastic range of color choices. You have options like the sleek and sophisticated Piano Black, the elegant and pristine Piano White, or the timeless and luxurious Platinum. Kudos to Jura’s design team for having such an impeccable eye for aesthetics. I must confess, deciding on a color scheme can be quite a challenge because they’re all so darn beautiful.

On the other hand, the Jura C65 sticks with a classic black and silver color combination. It’s a timeless look that never goes out of style. However, if you’re all about that sleek black casing, you might want to consider its sibling, the Jura C60. Just keep in mind that with the Jura C60, you’ll have to make a sacrifice when it comes to the grinder’s quality.

Water tank

Their water tanks have been designed to be smaller, contributing to their compact and space-saving design. However, for some individuals, this aspect might be seen as a drawback due to the need for more frequent refills. Personally, I find it to be quite reasonable for home use. After all, having a smaller water tank ensures that I always use fresh water, ultimately leading to a better-tasting brew.

Moreover, they are compatible with the CLEARYL Smart filter, which guarantees using high-quality water for extraction. Even better, they also feature the Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.) that takes convenience to a whole new level. This clever system can automatically detect the presence of a filter using RFID technology, activate the filter mode, and notify you when it’s time to change the filter.

Bean hopper

Their bean hopper has a different capacity. The bean hopper of Jura E6 has 9.9 oz while that of Jura C65 is 7 oz.  I understand the importance of not leaving coffee beans in the hopper for too long, so both of these capacities would suffice for me, even I am a coffee beast.

Also, I prefer the design of Jura E6’s bean hopper. Its lid is clear plastic so I can check the remaining coffee beans and know when it’s run out to refill it at a glance. On the other hand, the Jura C65 has a black cover for its bean hopper, I have to open the cover to check the bean levels.

Drink Options & Programmability

The Jura C65 is capable of brewing two basic drinks: espresso and coffee. While you can still make milk-based drinks like cappuccinos, flat whites, and lattes, the C65 does not come with preset options for these milk-based drinks. You’ll need to have some knowledge of how to prepare them yourself.

The Jura E6 comes equipped with a wider variety of preset drink options.  In addition to the common drinks like espresso, and coffee, the E6 provides extra choices such as Caffè Barista, Americano, Macchiato, Cappuccino Extra Shot.

Both machines are equipped with dual coffee spouts, allowing for the simultaneous brewing of two cups: 2x Espresso and 2x Coffee. While this may be a standout feature for some users, I personally don’t consider it a significant advantage. The reason is that when preparing two drinks at once, the amount of water selected for a single serving is used for each cup, but the same amount of coffee as for a single serving is divided between the two cups. As a result, the double coffee and espresso modes on these machines may not deliver the desired intensity.

To illustrate, let’s say you want to make two cups of coffee with 16g of coffee per cup. The ability to brew two cups simultaneously won’t help you achieve the desired strength, as the same amount of coffee will be divided between the two cups.

Customizing the parameters of the coffee and milk drinks is incredibly practical, as it allows us to tailor the brewing to our exact preferences. In this regard, the Jura E6 takes the lead, surpassing the C65 with its extensive range of programmability and fine-tuning options.

The table clearly demonstrates their impressive programmability. With such remarkable versatility at your disposal, finding a recipe that perfectly suits your individual taste preferences becomes a breeze

Utilities

The Winner: Jura E6

Cup Warmer

Based on feedback from numerous users, it appears that some have found their coffee from these machines to be not quite hot enough.  I guess it’s because they don’t preheat the cup before pouring the coffee.

When you pour coffee into a cold cup, a significant amount of heat is lost. By taking the time to warm up your cup beforehand, you can greatly reduce this heat loss, resulting in a noticeably hotter drink by several degrees.

The Jura C65 comes equipped with a convenient cup warmer on the top of the machine, making it easy to preheat your cups and minimize heat loss.

Unfortunately, the Jura E6 does not include this cup-warming feature. However, you can purchase the Jura Cup Warmer separately from online retailers like Amazon. Investing in a cup warmer could be a wise decision, as it ensures that your brews are enjoyed at the perfect temperature. Give it a try, and you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised by the difference it can make in achieving that perfectly hot cup of coffee you desire!

User Interface

Jura C65 vs E6: User Interface
Jura C65 vs E6: User Interface

When it comes to the display, the Jura E6 takes things up a notch with its more advanced and visually appealing color screen. The menu is designed to be intuitive, making navigation a breeze.

On the other hand, the Jura C65 keeps it simple with a basic monochrome display. Its setup consists of a couple of dials, one of which also doubles as a button. Additionally, a one-line text display provides you with essential information. While the E6 offers a more sophisticated display experience, the C65 offers a straightforward and practical design.

Smart App Connectivity

I love how the Jura E6 takes things to the next level by being compatible with a smartphone app. With the app, I can easily navigate all the different coffee drink options and customize settings like coffee strength and temperature, all from the convenience of my phone.

I found the C65’s user interface a bit more challenging to navigate than the Jura E8. It took me some time to get the hang of it, and I wished it could connect with the app to compensate for this weakness. Unfortunately, that hope was dashed when I realized it wasn’t compatible with the app.

Price

The Winner: Jura C65

The Jura C65 is generally more affordable, making it an excellent option for those who are mindful of their budget. It offers great value for the price and provides essential features for a satisfying coffee experience.

However, if you’re seeking more advanced functionalities and are willing to invest a bit more, the Jura E6 might be the superior choice. It comes with additional features and capabilities that cater to those who desire a more customized and high-performance brewing experience.
