Even though the Jura Z8 vs GIGA W3 are designed with different purposes in mind, many people still wonder which one is the better buy. Whether you’re looking for a machine for your home, office, or coffee shop, I gotta say, my vote goes to the Jura Z8. It’s got that special something that makes it worth every penny.

The Jura Z8 is an incredibly versatile coffee machine that excels in various settings, including homes, offices, and commercial establishments. With its dual spout, it can brew two cups of coffee simultaneously. Its 2.3-liter water tank and 9.9-ounce bean hoppers provide sufficient capacity. Navigating the Jura Z8 is a breeze, thanks to its intuitive and user-friendly touchscreen interface. It is also a more affordable option. I rate it as more value for money than the GIGA W3.

On the other hand, the Jura Giga W3 is specially designed for commercial use. It can brew not only two cups of coffee simultaneously but also two milk-based specialty coffees at once, catering to high-demand environments. With an impressive selection of 31 drink options and higher capacity, it’s the go-to choice for those seeking a professional coffee maker for commercial purposes.

Jura Z8 vs Giga W3: Differences

After an intense showdown between the Jura Z8 vs GIGA W3, the Jura Z8 emerges as the victor with a score of 2-1, along with 2 draws. Get ready to immerse yourself in this detailed comparison and uncover the machine that best suits your specific needs.

Coffee Flavor & Brewing System

The Winner: Tie

Brewing Technology

Regarding brewing technology, it looks like the Jura Z8 and GIGA W3 are rocking some similar tech. They both come packed with features that are considered standard for Jura’s super-automatic coffee machines: the Intelligent Pre-brewing Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S.), Intelligent preheating, and 15 bar pressure.

However, the Jura Z8 comes with the Pulse Extraction Process (or P.E.P.), while the Giga W3 doesn’t. Seriously, what was Jura thinking? I mean, we’re talking about a machine that can cost up to $7000, and they couldn’t include such an awesome feature?

Let me explain why I’m so bummed about this. P.E.P. is Jura’s super cool technology that takes your espresso to exceptional barista quality. When you’re making a short espresso, it pumps hot water through the coffee grounds in quick bursts. This special process lets the flavors of the coffee fully develop, giving you a deeper and more flavorful cup. And let’s not forget about the crema – with P.E.P., you get more of that creamy goodness too!

Sure, the Giga W3 still makes a decent cup of joe, but it just can’t compete with the flavor and crema explosion you’d get from the Z8 with P.E.P. It’s a real shame!

Grinder

The Jura Z8 rocks a conical grinder, while the GIGA W3 goes for a flat burr grinder. But if you ask me which is better, it’s a tough call. Let’s dive into the advantages and disadvantages of each to get a clearer picture.

I get why Jura equips a flat burr grinder for the GIGA W3. This type is often found in commercial-grade machines because it has some pretty awesome perks. On the flip side, the Jura Z8, which is typically used in households or small offices, opts for the conical grinder, and it totally makes sense. Allow me to explain in a jiffy.

You know, the flat grinder is all about the consistent grind-size game. Coffee lovers, I don’t need to stress the importance of that, right? But in reality, both of these coffee machines surprised me with their ability to pull off a balanced and uniform extraction, no matter what grind setting I tinkered with. Oh, and by the way, the Jura Z8 has got you covered with 6 grind settings, while the GIGA W3 offers 5 settings.

Now, let’s talk speed. The flat burr is like lightning when it comes to grinding coffee beans. It’s built for high-volume coffee brewing, no doubt. I put the GIGA W3 to time it and it brewed a cup of espresso in less than 30 seconds.

But there’s a potential glitch with the flat burr grinder: heat generation. Those bad boys have a knack for heating up more throughout the day compared to their conical counterparts. And that heat can risk scorching your coffee grounds, leading to a loss of flavor. On the flip side, I’m not too concerned about the heat generated by the Jura Z8 during the grinding process. You know why? Conical burrs are known to produce less heat than flat burrs, which means they help preserve the taste and quality of your coffee.

With a hefty price tag of $7000, Jura wouldn’t want anything to jeopardize the taste of their precious coffee. I bet they’ve put some serious thought into ventilation to keep things cool. Otherwise, it will be able to destroy the delicious taste of coffee, the quality that they have been trying to build over the years.

Last but not least, the GIGA W3 grinder can be quite the noisemaker compared to the Jura Z8. Jura Z8’s grinding sound is very quiet and much quieter. You won’t wake up the whole fam with its quiet grinding sound. I appreciate the design team’s effort in taking care of the user experience, they put the grinders of these two machines made of ceramic, so it’s much quieter than running the mill steel grinder.

Heating System

Your cup of coffee or milk is nice and hot, all thanks to the heating system. These coffee machines have a cool feature – they both use a dual heating system.

Why dual, you ask? Well, milk and coffee usually need different temperatures to be just right. So having two boilers in the coffee machine makes life a whole lot easier. It means you can steam milk and brew coffee simultaneously, without any waiting in between. Plus, these machines always give me the perfect temperature for both my coffee and milk.

And these machines are lightning-fast! Their heating system uses the fancy Thermoblock technology, which means you don’t have to wait long at all for a delicious cup of joe.

Milk System

The Winner: Jura GIGA W3

Forget about those machines with only one milk froth setting that keeps the density the same drink after drink. The Jura Z8 and GIGA W3 are in a league of their own when it comes to crafting exquisite milk-based beverages. They truly take it to the next level.

One standout feature of these machines is their ability to automatically adjust the density of the milk froth for each milk-based drink. I like enjoying the perfect texture tailored to my drink of choice. Whether I am craving a light and airy froth for a cappuccino or a velvety smooth milk foam and hot milk for a latte macchiato, these machines have got me covered.

I will illustrate how this automatic milking system works by describing how it produces a perfect flat white. It all starts with brewing a delightful espresso, ensuring a strong foundation for your flat white. Once that’s done, the magic begins. The system smoothly blends in your milk, finding the ideal balance to create a harmonious union of flavors. And then, it automatically transitions into producing heavenly milk foam.

What truly swayed my vote in favor of the Jura Giga’s milk system was its remarkable capability to effortlessly prepare two cups of milk-based beverages at once, a feature that set it apart from the Jura Z8. This functionality is a dream come true for milk aficionados.

Jura has built a solid reputation for its exceptional quality and precise craftsmanship, and the Z8 and GIGA W3 professional espresso makers are no exception. Of course, they both boast the stunning aesthetics that Jura is renowned for. With their sleek and stunning aesthetics, these machines will definitely spruce up any modern setting.

When it comes to size, the Jura Z8 is the compact champ. It’s perfect for kitchens with limited counter space. You won’t have to worry about hogging the room. It’s designed to fit seamlessly into your setup without causing any clutter. But about the GIGA W3—it’s a beast! This bad boy is massive, so make sure you’ve got plenty of room to spare. It’s best suited for those who have a dedicated coffee bar area.

Bean Hopper

Matching the colossal size of the machine, the bean hopper on the GIGA W3 is an absolute beast. I’m talking about being able to load an entire bag of beans in there at once. This machine can hold up to a whopping 35 oz. Seriously, with such a capacity, you have enough beans to brew anywhere from 70 to 100 cups of coffee, depending on coffee strength.

Let’s compare that to the Jura Z8’s bean hopper, which can only hold 9.9 oz. If you place them side by side, it’s clear that the difference is pretty striking, right? However, don’t sweat it. Even with its smaller capacity, the Jura Z8’s bean hopper is more than sufficient for your family’s needs, and it’s definitely up to the task if you want to use it in an office setting.

Just a quick note: if you have excessive coffee sitting in your hopper and can’t drink it all fast enough, the beans will lose their freshness over time. And that can significantly impact your taste and ability to brew that perfect cup of joe.

Thankfully, both the Jura GIGA W3 and the Jura Z8 have an aroma preservation cover that helps seal the freshness. This cover gives you a little extra time to enjoy your coffee without it losing its flavor. However, I would still advise against leaving the beans in the hopper too long. In my experience, brewing coffee using freshly ground beans always yields a superior taste to beans stored in the hopper for a week. But hey, that might just be my feeling.

In any case, it’s essential to consider your needs carefully. Think about how much coffee you’ll consume and how quickly you’ll go through the beans.

Water Tank

Jura GIGA W3's water tank can hold a whopping 5 liters of water
Jura GIGA W3’s water tank can hold a whopping 5 liters of water

Of course, if GIGA W3 has a monster-sized hopper, It will have a water reservoir to match. It holds a whopping 5 liters of water. It’s like having a swimming pool right in your coffee machine! Meanwhile, the water tank of Jura Z8 can hold 2.3 liters.

Don’t forget to consider your own needs. Leaving water in the tank for too long can lead to some gross sludge buildup.

One thing they both have in common—the Jura CLEARYL water filter. I totally recommend installing it when you first set up your machine.

Why? Well, there are two major reasons. Firstly, the water you use is key when it comes to coffee. The CLEARYL filter guarantees top-notch quality, so you’ll always sipping on the best-tasting brew. And here’s the real kicker: it also saves your machine from limescale buildup. No more worrying about those annoying clogs.

Once you’ve got the CLEARYL filter, you can bid farewell to the hassle of descaling your automatic coffee machine. No more worrying about those tedious cleaning sessions. Simply keep an eye out for the handy notifications, run the cleaning cycles as prompted, and voila! Descaling becomes a thing of the past… well, as long as you remember to swap out the filter on schedule.

User Interface

The Jura Z8 boasts a standout feature with its 4.3″ touchscreen that sets the bar high for coffee machine interfaces. It’s got a clean layout with vibrant graphics that’ll catch the eye of anyone else.

Touchscreen on Jura Z8 is very intuitive
Touchscreen on Jura Z8 is very intuitive

Now, here’s my take on the Z8’s touch screen. I gotta admit, it adds a modern touch and makes the machine user-friendly. But I find the touch response a bit sluggish. I’m used to lightning-fast scrolling and swiping on my smartphone, so the Z8’s screen feels a tad laggy in comparison. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re all about that super smooth interaction.

On the other hand, GIGA W3 rocks a 3.5″ color display, buttons, and a handy rotary switch on top of the machine. When I first laid eyes on it, I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be great if that display was touch-enabled?”  But then it hit me – buttons should be used, especially for a machine built to handle heavy-duty usage. Plus, the intuitive operation of the rotary switch is a nice touch that adds an extra layer of convenience.

Drink Options & Programmability

The Winner: Jura Z8

When it comes to serving up a variety of delicious coffee drinks, the Jura Z8 and the Jura GIGA W3 have got you covered with their extensive selection of presets. The Z8 offers 21 options, while the GIGA W3 goes above and beyond with a whopping 31 choices. You will surely find your favorite drink.

If you only look at the number of presets, you might think the GIGA W3 is the clear winner. But hold on a second, don’t underestimate the Z8! It may have a smaller number, but it’s no slouch either.

However, unless you’re a real barista, splurging on a machine with 31 different options will just be a waste of your money. The Z8, on the other hand, is a versatile choice that fits perfectly in homes, offices, and even commercial settings.

Personally, I’m not too hung up on the number of presets since I tend to stick to simpler drinks. But one feature of the Jura GIGA W3 that I couldn’t resist is its ability to make two milk-based coffee drinks at once. It’s like hitting the jackpot in the specialty coffee machine world! Just imagine enjoying two tasty Flat Whites, Cappuccinos, or Latte Macchiatos, etc. This feature will save a lot of time.

Just like your favorite barista can customize drink recipes on demand, these machines also offer a wide range of adjustable settings, allowing you to experiment and find your favorites.

On the Jura GIGA W3, you can choose between 5 coffee strength levels, 3 brewing temperatures, 3 levels of hot water, milk and milk foam temperature. The Jura Z8 takes the lead with 10 coffee strength levels, 3 brewing temperatures, 3 levels of hot water and 10 levels of milk and milk foam temperature. Once you’ve nailed down your ideal settings, you can save them for future brewing sessions.

What I love about these espresso machines is the ability to control the temperature of the milk and milk foam. This feature is a game-changer, especially because not all Jura models offer it. With the Jura Z8, I could adjust the temperature to my liking with 10 different levels. It allowed me to enjoy an extra hot latte that I could savor throughout a long meeting. On the other hand, the Jura GIGA W3 only offers 3 levels.

Price & Value For Money

The Winner: Jura Z8

The GIGA W3 is indeed designed as a commercial machine, which explains its higher price tag. However, I don’t find it as appealing for commercial use. In terms of drink quality, I feel it’s not significantly different from the Jura Z8. Perhaps it could be more suitable for smaller coffee shops. I wouldn’t recommend it for home use. Spending $7000 on a commercial espresso machine for home use is insane.

When it comes to the Jura Z8, it truly shines in household settings. Even if you use it in an office or a small coffee shop, it won’t disappoint you. Plus, the best part is that it comes at a much more affordable price compared to the Jura GIGA W3.
