Let’s compare the Nespresso Essenza Mini vs Vertuo Next machines today to see which one produces the best espresso and coffee. I conclude that Essenza Mini is the best choice after a few brewing sessions.
Despite its small size, the Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini produces strong espresso. The quality of the coffee is nice, and the machine controls the temperature of the coffee rather well. Furthermore, I’m delighted by its wealth of practical extra functions, such as Eco mode. For me, this approach has been stable in every way.
Breville Vertuo Next, on the other hand, has yet to give me as much as I’d want. The temperature could have been better, and the ejection of used capsules isn’t something I’m fond of either. But its espresso does taste amazing. I will give you the full details below!

Nespresso Essenza Mini vs Vertuo Next: Differences
Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini wins 4-0 against Breville Nespresso Vertuo Next. Essenza Mini simply performs better in all aspects, from espresso texture to temperature.
Heating system
Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini
Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini and Breville Nespresso Vertuo Next, heat water to brewing temperature using Thermoblocks. The pair works uniquely for me while having the same heating system.
Regarding water temperature, Essenza Mini proves to be more efficient and formidable. If I don’t preheat the cup or make an extra effort to ensure that the water is boiling hot, the beverages are served at 165–170°F already. However, if I preheat the cups, I can easily maintain the heat at 175°F without difficulty. If you prefer coffee that cools off as slowly as possible, as I do, I think you will appreciate this temperature range a bit more.
Vertuo Next falls short of Essenza Mini in terms of beverage temperature. It’s a little chilly when I order an espresso, which is normally about 155-160F. Overall, the temperature is suitable for immediate enjoyment, not leisurely drinking. To keep the beverages warm for longer, I advise preheating the cup.
Brewing technique
Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini
Vertuo Next employs Centrifusion, whereas Essenza Mini uses a 19 bars pump mechanism to extract espresso. However, these systems all produce espresso with a similar flavor: it’s rich, nuanced, and fresh. So, in terms of flavor, I don’t notice any difference.
However, due to the distinctive extracting mechanism, the crema textures of these models’ espressos are very contrasting. The Centrifusion spins the capsule while the pump pressure compresses. So naturally, the Centrifusion method allows more air to enter the extraction flow, facilitating the crema formation of Vertuo Next. But this is only sometimes good.
The texture of Essenza Mini is less full-bodied, but the crema is good. I can see a reasonable layer of crema on top of the espresso that may be run about 7mm-1cm, or under 0.4 inches. So, the overall consistency of an espresso shot or a coffee is good. It has a mouthfeel to it while not being too creamy.
As for Nespresso Vertuo Next, its crema shocks me in a bad way. When I first saw the layer on my lungo, my first impression was that it looked like a pint of beer. The crema layers are too thick, and I have to get through a lot of foam before the espresso reaches my mouth. Rather than coffee crema, they resemble coffee froth (like milk foam) or coffee bubbles.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini
We may descale and clean Essenza Mini and Vertuo Next using the brewing buttons. I can easily access the cleaning and descaling mode by pressing the 2 beverage buttons simultaneously on Essenza Mini and the single beverage button on Vertuo Next.
The thing is, Delonghi promises that the Essenza Mini may be cleaned without cleaning capsules by descaling the appliance. But, to prevent mold growth or unintended results, I still advise cleaning the brew route with cleaning capsules at least once every 2 weeks or every month for a better appliance’s lifespan.
Also, to eject the used capsule from its slot to the container, I only have to lift the slot’s lid on Essenza Mini. However, on Vertuo Next, I have to lift the entire head of the machine up to eject the capsule. I don’t particularly appreciate how the brand doesn’t design a small lever or a button for this action.
Design & size
Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini
Essenza Mini is more space-efficient and has a more compact shape that would fit perfectly on any kitchen counter. This product’s main component is plastic, which accounts for its modest weight. I recommend this Nespresso machine if you live in a little flat or dorm and you need to save as much space as possible.

Check out these interesting similarities between Nespresso Essenza Mini and Vertuo Next!
Material
Is plastic a wise choice of material? Since stainless steel is stronger and can withstand damage better, I recommend it over plastic. However, getting a new stainless steel machine in this price range is like Mission Impossible. In this pricing range, plastic is an excellent material option.
On the other hand, I’m impressed by Vertuo Next’s recyclable plastic frame. Of course, the material is clean and safe to come in contact with your food. And the entire device is strong yet lightweight. So, if you care about the environment, this gadget is a good choice.
Adjustable coffee volume
To adjust the coffee volume, we have to press the beverage button that we want to program and release it when the volume is up to our liking. I have tried it with both Essenza Mini and Vertuo Next, and there is nothing complicated about the process.
